OVERVIEW –
This Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Decorative Finishing and Industrial Painting Occupations provides a work-based qualification aimed at learners working in construction, who have some knowledge and basic skills. ⁠

This course is also a part of Jump-Start Academy in pathway 2: Learn a trade and achieve NVQ (necessary to get a blue CSCS card). The intense courses are for those with some experience in Painting & Decorating, Plastering and Tiling. Progress and assessment will be carried out during the training with the assessor⁠.

To achieve the qualification candidates must complete the six Mandatory units plus the required Mandatory or Optional Units from one of the Pathways.  Candidates may complete any of the Additional Units but these will not count towards the Qualification.

CURRICULUM –
There are 3 Pathways, the Mandatory/Optional unit requirements for each are listed below.
Pathway 1: Painter
Pathway 2: Industrial Painter
Pathway 3: Heritage Painter

Pathway 1 : Painter. Candidates must complete 6 Mandatory units. Candidates may also complete any of the additional units but these will not count towards the qualification.

Mandatory Units

  • Conforming to general health, safety and welfare in the workplace
  • Conforming to productive working practices in the workplace
  • Moving, handling and storing resources in the workplace
  • Erecting and dismantling access/working platforms in the workplace .Unit Endorsements. One of the following endorsements required (i.e. own area of work):
    • Decorative finishing
    • Industrial painting
    • Plus two of the following endorsements required:
      • Ladders/crawler/boards
      • Step ladders/platform steps
      • Proprietary towers
      • Trestle platforms
      • Mobile scaffold towers
      • Proprietary staging/podiums
  • Preparing surfaces for painting and/or decorating in the workplace. Unit Endorsements. One of the following endorsements required:
    • Decorative finishing
    • Industrial painting
  • Applying surface coatings by brush and roller in the workplace. Unit Endorsements. One of the following endorsements required:
    • Decorative finishing
    • Industrial painting

Pathway 2 : Industrial Painter. Candidates must complete 6 Mandatory units, plus 1 Optional unit.

      • Solvent-borne
  • Preparing surfaces by abrasive blast cleaning in the workplace
