OVERVIEW –
The Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Demolition qualification provides a nationally recognised qualification for those working in this specialised area of construction⁠.

This qualification is competence-based, candidates must demonstrate the level of competence described in the units. Assessment is the process of measuring a candidate’s skill, knowledge and understanding against the standards set in the qualification.

The qualifications must be assessed in a work environment and in accordance with the ConstructionSkills’ Consolidated Assessment Strategy for Construction and the Built Environment, and it must be internally assessed by an appropriately experienced and qualified assessor.

Each candidate is required to produce a portfolio of evidence which demonstrates their achievement of all of the learning outcomes and assessment criteria for each unit.

CURRICULUM –
To achieve the qualification candidates must complete the required Mandatory and Optional units from one of the pathways.
There are two pathways as set out below.
Pathway 1 Demolition and Refurbishment Operative
Pathway 2 Plant Operative
Pathway 1 : Demolition and Refurbishment Operative Candidates must complete 4 Mandatory units, plus 1 Optional unit.

Mandatory Units
  • Conforming to general health, safety and welfare in the workplace
  • Conforming to productive working practices in the workplace
  • Moving, handling and storing resources in the workplace
  • Removing and segregating components and materials in demolition and/or refurbishment in the workplace
Optional Units – ONE unit
  • Dismantling and/or demolishing masonry and/or concrete structures in the workplace
  • Dismantling and/or demolishing roofs and/or cladding in the workplace
  • Dismantling and/or demolishing timber structures in the workplace
  • Dismantling and/or demolishing metal structures in the workplace
Pathway 2 : Plant Operative. Candidates must complete 2 Mandatory units, plus 1 Optional unit.. Mandatory Units
  • Conforming to general health, safety and welfare in the workplace
  • Conforming to productive working practices in the workplace
Optional Units – ONE unit
  • Operating plant or machinery to dismantle and/or demolish structures up to 15 metres in the workplace
  • Operating remote and/or pedestrian controlled plant or machinery to dismantle and/or demolish structures in the workplace
  • Operating demolition skid steer to demolish structures in the workplace
  • Operating demolition rigged plant for materials processing in the workplace
Optional Units –
Complete ONE unit
  • Removing materials/deposits by water jetting in the workplace. Unit Endorsements. One of the following endorsements required:
    • Drains and sewers
    • Tubes and pipes
    • Surface cleaning and preparation
  • Cutting and breaking materials by water jetting in the workplace
Pathway 2 : FAÇADE PRESERVATION.
Complete all of the Mandatory units plus ONE Optional unit Mandatory Unit:
  • Conforming to general health, safety and welfare in the workplace
  • Conforming to productive working practices in the workplace
  • Moving, handling and storing resources in the workplace
  • Setting up and preparing water jetting equipment in the workplace
Optional Units – complete ONE unit
  • Cleaning facade surfaces in the workplace. Unit Endorsements. One of the following endorsements required:
    • Masonry
    • Non-masonry
  • Restoring facade surfaces in the workplace
Pathway 3 : DAMAGE REPAIR AND RESURFACING
Complete all of the Mandatory units plus ONE Optional unit Mandatory Unit:
  • Conforming to general health, safety and welfare in the workplace
  • Conforming to productive working practices in the workplace
  • Moving, handling and storing resources in the workplace
  • Assessing internal property fittings and fixtures for repair and resurfacing activities in the workplace
  • Preparing internal property fittings and fixtures for repair and resurfacing in the workplace
  • Repairing and resurfacing internal property fittings and fixtures in the workplace
Pathway 4 : INSTALLING PROTECTIVE COMPONENTS
Complete ALL of the Mandatory units
