OVERVIEW –
The aim of Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Stonemasonry qualification is to recognise the knowledge, skills and competence of individuals who work in this specialised area of the construction industry. ; the aim of the qualification to recognise the knowledge, skills and competence demonstrated by an individual in the workplace.

Pathway 1 – Banker Masonry
Pathway 2 – External Stone Fixing
Pathway 3 – Internal Stone Fixing
Pathway 4 – Memorial Masonry
Pathway 5 – Stone Cutting
Pathway 6 – Stone Cladding
Pathway 7 – Heritage Mason
This qualification is competence-based, candidates must demonstrate the level of competence described in the units. Assessment is the process of measuring a candidate’s skill, knowledge and understanding against the standards set in the qualification.
The qualifications must be assessed in a work environment and in accordance with the ConstructionSkills’ Consolidated Assessment Strategy for Construction and the Built Environment, and it must be internally assessed by an appropriately experienced and qualified assessor.
Each candidate is required to produce a portfolio of evidence which demonstrates their achievement of all of the learning outcomes and assessment criteria for each unit.

CURRICULUM –
Pathway 1 – Banker Mason.
Candidates must complete all of the Mandatory units in this pathway.
Mandatory Units
  • Conforming to general health, safety and welfare in the workplace
  • Conforming to productive working practices in the workplace
  • Moving, handling and storing resources in the workplace
  • Producing standard templates and moulds in the workplace
  • Producing standard stonemasonry components in the workplace
Pathway 1 Additional Unit – not compulsory
  • Producing standard architectural stone enrichments in the workplace
Pathway 2 – External Stone Fixing. Candidates must complete all of the Mandatory units in this pathway.
Mandatory Units
  • Conforming to general health, safety and welfare in the workplace
  • Conforming to productive working practices in the workplace
  • Moving, handling and storing resources in the workplace
  • Preparing backgrounds and setting out basic external stonemasonry in the workplace
  • Erecting basic external stonemasonry in the workplace

Pathway 2 Additional Units. – not compulsory

  • Repairing basic stonemasonry structures in the workplace
  • Installing internal stone flooring in the workplace
Pathway 3 – Internal Stone Fixing. Candidates must complete all of the Mandatory units in this pathway.
Mandatory Units
  • Conforming to general health, safety and welfare in the workplace
  • Conforming to productive working practices in the workplace
  • Moving, handling and storing resources in the workplace
  • Preparing background surfaces for internal stonefixing in the workplace
  • Installing internal stonefixing in the workplace

Pathway 3  Additional Units. – not compulsory
Mandatory Units

  • Repairing basic stonemasonry structures in the workplace
  • Installing internal stone flooring in the workplace
Pathway 4 – Memorial Masonry. Candidates must complete all of the Mandatory units in this pathway.
Mandatory Units
  • Conforming to general health, safety and welfare in the workplace
  • Conforming to productive working practices in the workplace
  • Moving, handling and storing resources in the workplace
  • Fixing and securing memorial masonry in the workplace
  • Providing details to memorial stones in the workplace
Pathway 5 – Stone Cutting. Candidates must complete all of the Mandatory units in this pathway.
Mandatory Units

  • Conforming to productive working practices in the workplace
  • Moving, handling and storing resources in the workplace
  • Producing sawn stone products in the workplace
  • Finishing stone products in the workplace
Pathway 6 – Stone Cladding. Candidates must complete all of the Mandatory units in this pathway.
Mandatory Units

  • Conforming to productive working practices in the workplace
  • Moving, handling and storing resources in the workplace
  • Preparing background surfaces and fixings to receive stone cladding in the workplace
  • Installing handset stone cladding to background structures in the workplace

Repairing and replacing stone cladding in the workplace

Pathway 7 – Heritage Mason. Candidates must complete all of the Mandatory units in this pathway.
